It’s April Fool’s Day today and I have to say, it was certainly memorable. However, it was not because of the harmless pranks or the teachers’ unexpected reaction. Well,Thursdays are the days of netball trainings and it held the promise of hours of enjoyable but tiring sessions. However,my mentors made sure we have a good time during our trainings when they plan the schedule.

As it happened,we decided to have a half court ‘netball’ game. It followed the rules of netball but there were only 4 players on each team and we were not given any positions. At first, all went well. However,after15 minutes of playing,we were not able to communicate well and ended up having the passes wrong. We also threw the ball to the wrong teamate instead of the intended. It was in such an incident that my memorable incident happened.

I had initially called out for the ball with great enthusiasm. My teammate threw it to me and I stood poised to receive it. Unexpectedly, another teammate of mine jumped in front of me, causing both of us to collide. I was dazed for a moment. Then, the game continued. After a few chance encounters like this, the one that really struck was when she and I went for the same ball. The ball bounced off my knees and landed straight into her hands. Both of our eyes connected. I lifted my smile in what I hoped was a tentative one. I realised that true camaradrie need not be forged by PSGM meetings or any other events organised to bond. It can be formed in simple moments like this. Friendship occurs when you least expect it so treasure these moments. So this is what makes 1st April 2010 so special to me.
